I’ll be honest with you, for the longest time, I felt like reading the Bible was this huge, intimidating task. I’d open it, read a few verses, get distracted by the dishes in the sink, or my toddler, and then close it, feeling guilty that I wasn’t “doing it right.” Maybe you’ve felt that way too.
Here’s the truth I’ve slowly learned: you don’t need the perfect moment, the perfect quiet, or even the perfect understanding. You just need to start. And the beautiful thing? God meets you right where you are, even if it’s messy, scattered, or full of interruptions.
Why Starting Matters More Than Perfect
I want you to hear this: starting, even imperfectly, matters. You don’t need to read cover-to-cover or memorize chapters to grow closer to God. The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is connection, showing up, even in small ways, and letting God’s Word speak to your heart.
It doesn’t matter if you start over tomorrow, or the next day, or a week later. Every time you open your Bible, you’re planting seeds. Seeds that will grow in faith, understanding, and peace.
Where to Begin
If you’re not sure where to start, here’s a simple roadmap I love for beginners:
- John – Get to know Jesus and His heart.
- Romans – Understand grace, faith, and salvation.
- Genesis – Learn the beginning of God’s story and His promises.
- Psalms – Pour out your heart to God in prayer and worship.
You don’t have to read all of it at once. Even one chapter, one verse, or one Psalm a day is enough.
Give Yourself Grace
Moms, life is busy. Some days, your Bible time might be five minutes in the car or during a toddler nap. That’s okay. Some days, you might need to start over because life got in the way. That’s okay too. The important part is that you keep showing up.
Think of it like walking a path, some days are smooth, some days are muddy. Some days you walk fast, some days slow. What matters is that you keep walking. God is right there with you every step of the way.
Your Invitation
So today, I want to invite you to do something simple: open your Bible. Don’t worry about what you “should” read or how long you should spend. Just open it. Let a verse sink in. Let it remind you that God’s love is bigger than your mistakes, bigger than your missed days, and bigger than your doubts.
Starting again and again is not failure; it’s faith in action. You can do this. You are capable. And God is ready to meet you right where you are, even if that’s somewhere messy, tired, or unsure.
You don’t have to wait for the perfect time. You just have to start.
